“But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’
(Luke 12v20 NIV)
It is never going to end well if God calls you a fool.
You can’t expect to have a heart attitude like that and expect there to be no consequences.
We are all answerable to God for what we do.
Even what we say and what we think.
He sees it all and nothing is hidden from Him.
He is not asleep as some think.
Neither is He paralysed to act.
Here Jesus is highlighting the foolishness of what drives people.
Exposing their true motives.
People are driven for gain.
It is seen as an end in itself.
It is seen as a natural part of life.
Even that it is what life is all about.
But He has given you life for a reason.
It is not measured by the accumulation of stuff.
Make what you do count for something or someone other than you.
